THE clock is ticking to tell us about the people who make Glasgow's West & Central area champion.

We need you to tell us about the inspiring individ-uals and extraordinary teams making a difference in an area stretching from the Merchant City to Yoker and Drumchapel.

The fourth stage of five in the Glasgow Community Champion Awards 2013 aims to turn the spotlight on unsung heroes dedicated to making the city a better place to live or work.

It could be a school pupil or staff member who's passionate about education, a housing association driving up living standards, a charity providing much-needed care, a sports coach inspiring a generation of youngsters, or a uniformed service committed to mak-ing our communities safer.

If you know someone who deserves recognition, then please tell us about them today by downloading a nomination form from our website, or call us for a hard copy of the entry form.

All entries must reach us by Thursday, August 1.

Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson, who represents the Ander-ston/City ward, encouraged readers to nominate their local heroes.

He said: "As our new city brand exemplifies – People Make Glasgow. The Community Champion Awards are a fantastic way of celebrating the many unsung heroes of Glasgow, who so selflessly dedicate their time and energy to helping other people in their communities.

"I would urge everyone who feels they know of a worthy candidate to make a nomination via the Evening Times' website.

"Let's give these community champions the recognition they deserve."

There's no limit on the number of nominations you can make – and we welcome entries from nominees and winners from the previous four seasons of the awards.

There are eight categories: Individual, Team, Public Service, Senior, Young, Uniformed Service, Sport, Health & Wellbeing.

The last category was added in 2011 to coincide with the Evening Times hugely successful Glas-goals healthy living campaign, while Sport was added last year to reward the coaches and teams doing their bit for grassroots sports ahead of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

A judging panel – including representatives from Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, GHA, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and your Evening Times – will whittle down all entries to a shortlist.

But whether a finalist or not, everyone is invited to our awards ceremony in the heart of the West & Central community on August 22.

And if you know of a lively local music or dance act who could provide a fitting finale to the ceremony, then get in touch to tell us about them.

All winners will take their place at a grand final at the City Chambers in December, at which the overall Community Champions of Glasgow will be named.

Readers in the West & Central area, which is home to around 141,000 residents, have strongly supported our Community Champion events in the past.

Hundreds of people packed into Glasgow University Union's Debating Chamber last year, one of 34 events to date hosted around the city to honour those who care about their communities.
