GLASGOW Airport was today given a triple boost with confirmation of new Dreamliner flights to the Caribbean as well as extra flights to Majorca and three Greek islands.

Holiday giants Thomson and First Choice plan to make next summer a real sizzler by flying more passengers out of the airport.

The revolutionary Boeing 787 Dreamliner will be used when new flights from Glasgow to the golden beaches of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic take off in May. The weekly flights will continue throughout the summer months.

It comes as bosses in Glasgow are enjoying their best summer in years.

Business is booming and later today officials were expected to announce their best July trading figures in five years after attracting hundreds of thousands of passengers.

It's believed the wes tcoast hub handled around 800,000 people - more than the passenger count for any July since 2008 - to confirm steady growth which has been witnessed for almost two years now.

Confirmation of the new Caribbean island service comes five weeks to the day Glasgow after became the first airport in the UK to fly tourists abroad on the revolutionary Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Thomson's maiden flight to the Mexican resort of Cancun was quickly followed by a Dreamliner flight to America's sunshine state of Florida.

So far Thomson chiefs have jetted 4500 holidaymakers out of Glasgow on eight flights to Mexico and seven to Orlando and next summer's Dreamliner flights to the Dominican Republic are expected to be another huge attraction.

There's another double boost for Glasgow Airport on the horizon. Sister tour operators Thomson and First Choice also plan extra flights to a number of European hot spots.

First Choice is lining up more flights to Kos after building a multi-million pound holiday village on the Greek island, while both operators will launch more summer flights from next year to the neighbouring islands of Rhodes and Zante. More flights too will take off to the Mediterranean island of Majorca.

Airport chiefs welcomed the triple announcement.

Glasgow's commercial director Francois Bourienne said: "This is yet more good news from Thomson and First Choice."
