A TOUCH of magic is to be sprinkled on the city centre as Glasgow prepares for Christmas.

Dozens of street performers will entertain shoppers and tourists as the city centre is turned into a festive Style Mile Spectacular. The day will have a stunning finale as Toy Soldier performers take to the air.

The show will take place at seven locations in Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street, Queen Street and Argyle Street.

Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: "The Style Mile Spectacular is one of many highlights in a packed programme of free events set to delight visitors. If you are looking for something to get you in the Christmas Spirit, come along on Sunday."

Yesterday, Brazilian Christ-mas Samba Band, led by Claudio Kron Do Brazil, played samba versions of well-known Christmas tunes to passers by to give a taste of Sunday's fun.

They will also play at the weekend event which includes a Snow Queen and stilt walkers, Santa, Teddy Bears and danc-ing Christmas Puddings. Shoppers will be mesmerized by Sir Foxley's Victorian magic tricks, Christmas Fairies and street theatre performers Tap It Unwrap It and Man in a Christmas Present.

In Queen Street, Santa's Elves will present all children who visit with a memento of the day.

The finale involving street art pioneers Transe Express Company will see drummers lifted into the sky to form a giant mobile in Sauchiehall Street.
