THE £45 million cost of the refurbishment of the Burrell Collection in Glasgow has been questioned by a Parliamentary committee member.
The Burrell Collection (Lending and Borrowing) (Scotland) Bill Committee backed an international tour of the collection, despite concerns from arts organisations.
Committee member Gordon MacDonald said: "The major work at the Burrell is a complete new roof and removal of lecture theatre to create a new gallery space. Both of which will be costly - but £45m?"
A Glasgow Life spokesman said the estimate was "based on the repair to the fabric, the replacement of the building services installations that have come to the end of their useful life and complete re-display of the collection".
