POLICE have launched an investigation after a woman plunged to her death from a bridge over a busy motorway.
The 38-year-old fell from the footbridge over junction 15 east bound on the M8 in Glasgow and was hit by a passing vehicle.
Police were called to the scene in the Townhead area at around 9.20pm on Saturday following reports of a woman on the wrong side
of the railings on the footbridge.
Several youths were also on the bridge at the time and tried to assist the woman.
But she fell from the bridge onto the motorway and was struck by a passing vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle and several other drivers stopped and contacted emergency services.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said family members have been made aware.
Officers from the Road Policing Complex have issued an appeal for witnesses following the incident.
Sergeant Kevin Blackley said he would like to speak to anyone who saw the woman in the area around the footbridge or any drivers who were on the M8 eastbound at the time of the incident.
Anyone with information should contact the Sergeant Blackley on the non-emergency number 101.
