A VIOLENT husband who murdered his wife of 22 years by stabbing her 29 times was today jailed for life.

Abbas Nikabady, 44, of Cardonald, Glasgow, was ordered to serve at least 18 years behind bars before being eligible for parole.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that the brutal killing of Fatemeh Bostani, 43, in the kitchen of the family home at Moss Heights Avenue took place on June 3, last year.

Nikabady, who was obsessionally jealous, attacked his wife, a mother-of-two, after they returned to their home after being out shopping.

He used such force that two knives were broken on her body.

Afterwards he walked to a nearby police station and said: "I've killed my wife."

The court heard that he also stated: "I brought out her heart."

During a trial defence QC Donald Findlay claimed that his client was suffering from a mental disorder. But the jury rejected this and convicted him of murder.

The court heard that Nikabady has shown little or no remorse and blames his wife for what happened.

Jailing him judge Norman Ritchie QC said: "The ferocity of your attack was shocking. Two knives were broken on her body and it was thought you also wielded another larger one.

"It was a terrifying end to her life to be attack in her own home by the man whom she loved, honoured and obeyed.

"Your thoughts about your wife seem to be the product only of your fears and anxiety. You had a morbid obsession with monitoring her every move, despite her devotion to you. You restricted and prevented contact with her family and those who wishes to be her friends. You made the last years of her life unhappy.

"You took her life and have left your two sons without a mother. You exhibit little if any remorse and have continued to blame your wife."

The court heard that Nikabady and his wife were originally from Iran, but came to settle in Scotland.
