SCOTLAND'S care regulator has reassured families of residents living in council-run care homes in Glasgow that no-one will be put at risk during a staff walkout.
As reported in yesterday's Evening Times, hundreds of workers at residential homes for the elderly are planning to strike next Tuesday and Wednesday in a row over pay and new shift patterns.
The move will affect 600 people who live in the council's 15 elderly care homes and a home for people with physical disabilities.
Glasgow City Council raised concerns after Unison said it would not provide emergency "life and limb cover" during the strike.
A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said they were working with the council to make sure service users' needs were met.
He added: "In any situation like this we expect contingency measures to be in place to ensure services to residents are not affected, that their rights are respected and their needs met.
"We will be working closely with the council to ensure this is the case.
"Anyone with concerns can call our helpline on 0845 600 9527."
Glasgow Unison branch secretary Brian Smith said: "This is not something we've taken lightly."
