THE funeral of Scottish comedian Ford Kiernan's son will be held in Clydebank next week.

Sonny Kiernan, 12, died suddenly on Monday night at the Glasgow home he shared with his dad, his mother Lesley and sister Kaye.

Police are currently treating the incident as unexplained and the exact cause of death is subject to ongoing inquiries.

The youngster was described by his family as a "cherished son and brother".

His funeral will be held at Clydebank Crematorium on Tuesday.

Following the news of Sonny's death, a number of well-known TV stars offered their condolences to the Kiernan family.

Comedian and TV entertainer Andy Cameron tweeted: "Dreadful news about young Sonny Kiernan.

"My thoughts are with Ford and his family. Sometimes this life is impossible to understand."

Mr Kiernan's Chewin' The Fat and Still Game co-stars are expected to attend the funeral.

A brief statement from the family invited "all friends" to attend the service but asked that no flowers be placed.

Yesterday, Sonny's school, Kelvinside Academy, in the West End, paid tribute to the youngster and described him as a "cheerful boy who brightened our lives".

One classmate posted on her Twitter account: "Can't believe I've lost Sonny Kiernan! One of my great friends; can't stop crying."

The school this week described Sonny as a "lively, outgoing" pupil.
