AN investigation is underway after human remains were discovered in the west of Scotland.
The remains were found in a rural area near Arrochar, in Argyll, on Thursday afternoon.
It is not yet known if the remains are male or female.
Police said investigations were at a very early stage and the remains would be further examined.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that human remains were found in a rural location near to Arrochar on Thursday January 9.
"Further examinations of the remains will take place.
"The inquiry is at a very early stage and there is no further information available at this time."
