LEADING drinks firms have pledged their support for a fundraising event in aid of the Clutha Appeal Fund.

Tennent's, Diageo, Bacardi, Remy Cointreau, Morrison Bowmore, Speciality Brands and William Grant are among dozens of companies and individuals involved in this Sunday's event at The Barras Art and Design Centre in Glasgow.

Acts include The Shiverin' Sheiks, The Basement Boogie-Men, David Duffy, Papa Shandy & the Drams, Danny 'Greenman' O'Brien and David Stone. Money raised will go to the Glasgow City Council Clutha Appeal fund.

The event is being organised by Scott Gemmell of the LA Group in Glasgow, who got together with his brother Andy and pals Mike Aikman and Stuart McCluskey to pull in sponsors and acts from all over the UK.

Mr Gemmell said: "Thanks to the overwhelmingly generous support from all sectors of the Scottish hospitality industry and other organisations like Adidas, we are optimistic that we can raise a substantial sum.

"To have seen first-hand how the Scottish drinks industry has come together to support this event, honouring the legacy of a legendary pub, has been a heart-warming and at times deeply moving experience for all of us involved.

"The response of people from all over, and even outside, the country has left us in no doubt about the strength of feeling still running high out there for all those whose lives have been affected by the awful events."

Tickets cost £10 and can be booked at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-clutha-fundraiser-tickets-9731233381
