AN ultra high-definition 3D image of the Sydney Opera House was the star of the show at an event at Glasgow School of Art.

Its Digital Design Studio is one of four Higher Education institutions across the UK collaborating on the UK UHD project, along with the Universities of Cardiff, Bristol and Strathclyde.

The consortium is aiming to maximise the potential of Ultra High Definition technology in research and teaching.

The second UHD showcase, which took place yesterday, also demonstrated how this technology is being introduced into the field of medicine.

The DDS shared some of its acclaimed Scottish Ten 3D heritage content as part of the demonstration.

Created in partnership with Historic Scotland, the Scottish Ten includes 3D digital visualisations of Scotland's five World Heritage sites and international sites, such as Mount Rushmore and Sydney Opera House.

DDS director Professor Paul Anderson said UHD 3D models "can revolutionise learning and research".
