TWO new hostels for the homeless are to be built at a cost of £12million after Glasgow City Council was criticised for failing to meet demand.
By law, all local authorities have a duty to provide emergency temporary accomm-odation to anyone who suddenly becomes homeless.
But last year, in the six months to the end of September, 235 of the 391 people who approached the council's homelessness service were turned away. Of those,140 ended up sleeping rough.
The council has now been notified by the Scottish Housing Regulator that it plans to take
