A FORMER Glasgow office is to be trans-formed into a new hotel.

Hilton Worldwide has announced plans to open its first Hampton brand hotel in Glasgow city centre this summer.

It will cost £11million to convert the former office block in West Campbell Street into an 88-bedroom hotel with fitness centre.

Hilton Worldwide said "the time is right" to expand its portfolio in the city. The dev-elopment follows a franchise agreement with developer SCOT Sheridan and Curo (West Campbell) LLP.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, from Hilton Worldwide, said: "Hilton Worldwide has a strong presence in Glasgow, led by our flagship Hilton Glasgow which last year celebrated its 20th anniversary.

"Visitor numbers to the city are expected to grow by up to one million a year until 2016 so the time is right to expand our portfolio here.

"Having successfully opened Hilton Garden Inn Glasgow City Cen-tre two years ago we are delighted to be provid-ing further choice for guests seeking afford-able, quality, centrally located accommodation with our debut Hampton by Hilton."
