GLASGOW care staff who support hundreds of vulnerable older people have voted to take part in a further 48 hours of strike action.

The workers at city council-run residential care homes will stage a walkout next Monday and Tuesday as a dispute over new working patterns, pay and job roles deepened.

The move follows two days of strike action on Tuesday and Wednesday last week.

It came after trade union Unison lodged a formal complaint with the council over allegations that striking care workers wore balaclavas and were disruptive to the residents.

The claims made by executive director of social care services David Williams allege that the police were called because of noise levels at picket lines.

Branch secretary of Glasgow City Unison Brian Smith called the claims "scurrilous".
