THIS is the first glimpse of how the houses at the Athletes' Village could look after the Commonwealth Games.

A total of 700 homes have been built at the site opposite the Emirates Arena at a cost of £150million. It is regarded as one of the UK's most significant new urban developments.

Housing associations will rent out 400 properties with the rest going up for sale.

More than 1800 people have registered an interest in buying one of the homes.

They will be invited to view the marketing suite which includes three showhomes, two sales suites and a three-storey information suite at the end of this month.

But the Evening Times has been given a sneak preview of how the show-homes have been fitted out.

The public will be able to see them at a launch on February 8.

The one, two, three and four-bedroom houses are a range of apartments, terraces and townhouses.

They will cost around £75,000 for a one-bedroom flat and £200,000 for a four-bedroom detached home, and will be sold in phases.

Buyers will be able to secure one of the houses for an early bird fee of £250 and the sales price and proposed entry date will be confirmed within six months.

The properties used by athletes and officials during the Games will be refitted when the sporting event is over.

At present they have no kitchens as that space will be a bedroom during the Games. Kitchens will be installed after the athletes leave and other relatively minor works will be done.

It is likely the first new home buyers will be able to move in this time next year.

The properties have been built by City Legacy, a con-sortium of Glasgow firms Mactaggart & Mickel, CCG, Cruden and WH Malcolm.

The Games has been the catalyst for regeneration in the East End. As well as the village, the M74 motorway has been extended, and the world-class Emirates Arena and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome created.

Dalmarnock train station has been refurbished and work has begun on a comm-unity centre and woodland park at Cuningar Loop.

Liz Mallon, sales and marketing manager for Cruden Homes, said: "We have been overwhelmed by the number of registrations of interest in these homes and are confident potential buyers will be delighted by what is on offer."
