MORE than 170 jobs are to be axed by 2015 as South Lanarkshire Council looks to make £13.3 million worth of savings.
A total of 173.7 full time equivalent (FTE) posts are under threat after councillors agreed an outline for the 2014/15 budget at yesterday's meeting of the Executive Committee. As some of those jobs are part-time, the number of people affected could be higher than 173.
Included in the round of job cuts are lollipop men and woman. Some 20 FTE school crossing patrol posts are set to go in the next three years. Four public toilet attendant posts have also been targeted.
Overall, 53.5 jobs are to go from the council's Community and Enterprise Resources division; 40.5 from Education Resources; 29 from Housing and Technical Resources and 41.5 from Social Work The Finance and Corporate Resources division will lose 9.2 FTE posts.
