GLASGOW is set for another mini jobs boost.

Accountancy giant KPMG has already recruited 100 new staff in recent months but say another 80 will be hired by the summer to work in their new tax centre.

The office was launched last summer to handle tax complaince work previously done by staff based at KPMG's network of 22 offices across the UK.

The staff have been tasked to deal with self-assessment returns from clients.

The firm's new tax centre is not only generating jobs for Glasgow but is set to file thousands of personal tax returns before the end of the financial year in a few weeks time.

Centre director Colin Williamson said: "We're proud to have hit the double milestone of 100 employees and being on track to file 5000 personal tax returns in our first self-assessment season since opening our doors on July 1, 2013.

"We are still very much in a key recruitment phase and I'm very pleased that we are over half way through our recruitment target. We hope to have 180 employees in place by the middle of 2014.

"We still have many roles to fill, from junior to senior posts across our corporate, personal and expat teams.

"We have formed a really strong team in a short space of time who are all enthusiastic about the success we have had."

Jane McCormick, head of tax at KPMG in the UK, added: "Compliance is a huge part of our tax business. Tax is complicated and getting the tax returns right is enormously important."
