More than 2,000 cannabis plants have been seized from a commercial building in North Lanarkshire.

The drugs, which police say have a street value of £1.2 million, were found inside the premises in an industrial estate on Mid Road, Cumbernauld.

Detectives acted on intelligence to carry out a raid on the property on Tuesday at 5.30pm.

They say enquiries into the haul are continuing and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Michelle Thomson, from Cumbernauld Community Investigation Unit, said: "Police Scotland will continue to pursue those involved in the drugs trade.

"This is a significant recovery and will certainly have an impact on those involved in the cultivation and further distribution of these drugs."

Anyone with information about the drugs or who used the premises can contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
