A SPEEDING driver who killed an OAP motorist after swerving on to the wrong side of the road has been jailed for four years.
Andrew Duffy, 31, of John Street, Greenock, who had only passed his driving test five months earlier, smashed his Volvo V70 into the Peugeot 206 being driven by 76-year-old grandfather George Sweeney, of Baxter Street, Greenock.
The horror crash took place in Carwood Street, Greenock, on November 8, 2011.
Duffy, who was found guilty after a trial, was convicted of drink-driving just months before the fatal crash.
Jailing Duffy, Lord Matthews told him: "Nothing I say can ever modify or compensate for the family's terrible, needless and untimely loss."
