THESE are the first images of Glasgow's new £20million bus depot.

First Glasgow unveiled the architect's impressions of the company's new depot and HQ, to be built at Gushetfaulds, in Glasgow's South Side.

The new facility will be the largest bus depot in the UK, with space for 450 buses and 1200 employees.

First Glasgow's managing director Fiona Kerr said: "The plans for our new depot and headquarters are fantastic.

"It's really exciting to think that later this year we'll be enjoying a state-of-the-art facility specifically designed for operating and maintaining buses.

"Our £20m investment is great news for our customers - the new facility will help us improve upon an already strong punctuality and reliability performance and we hope it will encourage people to consider bus travel more often."

Scheduled to start operating in November, the construction site was officially opened by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.First Glasgow is running a competition where children's artwork will be displayed on hoardings around the 10 acre site on Cathcart Road until May.

Four winners will also be chosen to have their artwork displayed on the back of some First Glasgow buses.

Stephen Scott, Balfour Beatty Delivery Unit Managing Director, added: "We are delighted to be constructing this ambitious bus depot for First Glasgow.

"Work is progressing well on the project, which when complete will help revitalise an area which has lain derelict for many years."
