The Irn-Bru Carnival has just announced record visitor numbers for this year's festival.

During its 23 days at the SECC, the event attracted more than 157,000 visitors - the highest number since 1999.

Organisers said new rides made sure the carnival was the most popular in 14 years.

Katy Walker, head of consumer events at QD Events, said: "We really pushed the boat out by introducing these new rides and it has paid off."

Celebrating 93 years of family fun, more than 60 rides and attractions returned to Glasgow as part of Europe's largest indoor funfair.

From December 20 to January 12, the festival drew 6498 more visitors than at last year's event. New rides such as Extreme XL and the Voodoo dancer helped wow crowds.

And the carnival raised cash for Yorkhill Children's Charity as well as hosting youngsters from the hospital for the day.
