THE Speaker of the House of Commons will today hand over a book of condolence in memory of victims and survivors of the Clutha helicopter disaster.

John Bercow MP will present the book to Glasgow Lord Provost Sadie Docherty at a meeting in the City Chambers.

It was placed in the House of Commons for MPs, Peers and Palace of Westminster staff to sign after the Clutha tragedy which claimed 10 lives.

Mrs Docherty has already received Books of Condolence from the Scottish Parliament and the city of Liverpool, as well as a book signed by pupils at All Saints Secondary who attended a mass to mark the disaster.

Mrs Docherty said: "I am touched that Mr Bercow is visiting our city to personally hand over the House of Commons Book of Condolence.

"I look forward to meeting him and making him welcome."

Glasgow set up the first Book of Condolence after the crash in November last year.

The first signatory on December 1, two days after the tragedy, was the Lord Provost, who wrote: "With sadness we pray for those we have lost. In thanks we pray for those with us. In our prayers we remember those who are grieving."

The Scottish Parliament also set up a condolence book. The first signatory was Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick, who wrote: "My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragedy at the Clutha Bar.

"The great city of Glasgow can be proud of the work of the emergency services and the actions of the people of Glasgow who came to the aid of their fellow citizens."

The second signatory was First Minister Alex Salmond, who wrote: "Condolence for the bereaved, sympathy for the injured and total solidarity with the outstanding spirit of the people of Glasgow."
