A HOTEL entertainer who married a Scots "Shirley Valentine" he met in the Caribbean has been jailed for 10 years for attempting to murder her.
Jose Garcia, 28, stabbed Fiona Garcia, 40, in the chest during a discussion about money being sent home to his family in the Dominican Republic.
The couple met in the Caribbean in August 2010 when she was on holiday with her mother, and began a relationship. Months later in February 2011, after Mrs Garcia had received a £43,000 redundancy payout, they married abroad, and he moved to her home in East Kilbride.
At the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, Judge Michael O'Grady, QC, told Garcia: "You have been convicted of an appalling and equally disturbing crime. The attack upon your wife was unprovoked, brutal and utterly callous."
