BUSINESS bosses in Glasgow have attended the first in a series of meetings on how the city will keep moving during the Commonwealth Games.

Around 100 people from groups including the Federation of Small Businesses, freight firms, the Chamber of Commerce and city banks were given advice on journey planning.

The meeting is part of a detailed process aimed at keeping the city running during the Games.

The Get Ready Glasgow campaign has been designed to tell both residents and businesses about the changes they can expect before, during and after the Ganes.

A series of workshops are planned for city firms who will also be able to access online tips to help them draw up their travel plans.

City council leader Gordon Matheson said: "This summer, Glasgow will host its greatest ever party but there is still serious business to be done during the Games.

"We are acting now to ensure businesses understand how our city will change this summer so they can start to plan ahead.

"Glasgow will be open for business during the Games but it won't be business as usual so we need to get ready."

The Games will be attended by more than 6500 athletes and officials over 11 days of competition.

David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014, said: "Excitement and interest is building like never before, from the unprecedented demand for our ticketing programme to the excitement of the Queen's Baton Relay that has been seen around the Commonwealth."
