A CHIPPY in Helensburgh is celebrating after its chips were crowned the best in Scotland.

The Wee Kelpie, in the Argyll and Bute town, was recognised in the annual Choice Chips Award.

The event, run by the Potato Council in recognition of Chip Week 2014, which starts today, reward the tastiest chips being served across the UK.

More than 840 chip shops competed in this year's competition.

The Wee Kelpie's loyal customers voted in their masses to batter off stiff competition from some of Scotland's top chippies.

Duntocher-based chip shop Fallones was named runner-up in the region.

Nicola Rayburn, of the Wee Kelpie, said: "There's no secret ingredients used in our chip making - we just make sure we use the highest quality potatoes and keep all the oil constantly fresh."
