HOLIDAYMAKERS faced a ten-hour nightmare flight after high winds forced their plane to make an unscheduled landing.

Passengers travelling on the 8.45am Thomson Airways flight from Glasgow Airport were due to land at Funchal, Madeira, at 12.45pm UK time.

But the adverse weather forced the plane to reroute to Tenerife. It eventually landed in Funchal at 6.35pm last night.

A statement from the holiday company said: "Thomson Airways would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused following the diversion into Tenerife of flight TOM1122 travelling from Glasgow to Funchal, due to adverse weather conditions in Funchal."
