A MAN has died after being hit by a train outside Glasgow.

The incident happened at Bishopbriggs station at 2.50pm this afternoon.

There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

Train services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh, Alloa, Dunblane and Stirling were affected.

Services between Alloa and Queen Street were not calling at Bishopbriggs, Lenzie or Croy as a result.

Replacement buses were running at Cumbernauld and Stirling.

The disruption was expected to last until 6.30pm.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "A man has died after being hit by a train at Bishopbriggs station.

"This happened at 2.50pm today.

"Officers are still on the scene.

"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances."

Scotrail advised passengers of "severe disruption" on their website and advised them to check before travelling.

A notice posted on the website read: "Services may be cancelled, delayed or revised at short notice."
