DRIVERS and commuters faced hazardous conditions on the roads today as wet weather continued.
Glasgow and the West of Scotland was hit by heavy rain and gusty winds over the weekend and more showers are expected to add to already wet conditions this week.
Forecasters have predicted unsettled weather, with a fresh weather front bringing yet more rain to the area.
Forecasters said some areas could experience rainfall of 30-40mm (1¾ins) – up to 80mm (3½ins) on higher ground. The average for the month of February is 98mm (4ins).
Meanwhile, a road notorious for landslides has reopened following the latest blockage.
Drivers faced
a detour of about
60 miles after heavy rain brought almost 60 tons of mud on to the A83 at Butterbridge, near the Rest And Be Thankful, in
Argyll and Bute, around midday yesterday.
Workers using excavation diggers cleared the road and it has now
reopened with temporary traffic lights.
First Minister Alex
Salmond chaired a Scottish Government Resilience Committee meeting to
assess how prepared
Scotland is to respond to the impact of the weather.
There are 10 flood alerts and 26 flood warnings in place, with more rain
predicted in some parts of the country.
There has been widespread flooding to low-
lying agricultural land and roads in a number of areas across western, central and southern parts of Scotland.
