POPULAR Evening Times vendor Gordon Monteith has died after a short illness.

Gordon, from Parkhead, worked as a vendor for 12 years and was well-known at his pitch outside Central Station in Gordon Street.

The 54-year-old had been ill since October, and will be "much missed" by both his colleagues and customers.

Circulation Operations Supervisor Gerry Mellin, said: "Gordon was extremely popular with both his colleagues and his customers.

"He was always cracking jokes and had a smile on his face.

"He was a great ambassador for The Herald and Evening Times."

Gordon was a paper boy for The Evening Times in his youth, and had 11 brothers and sisters.

His funeral will take place on Friday, at 10.30am, on Tullibody Cemetery, Menstrie Road, Clackmannashire.
