A young cat was found abandoned in a car park in Hamilton

The Scottish SPCA was alerted on Thursday morning ( February 27) after the white and tortoiseshell female cat was found in a parking space outside Right Medicine Pharmacy on Brandon Street, Hamilton.

The cat is now in the care of the Scottish SPCA's Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where she has been named Stacey.

Animal Rescue Officer Gavin Law, said: "Stacey was left in the car park inside a pink coloured cat carrier.

"She could have easily been run over by someone pulling into the parking space had she not been moved in time.

"Stacey looks to be less than a year old and is in very good condition.

She was also warm when we retrieved her, so it's likely that she had not been there long.

"We are appealing to anyone who recognises Stacey to come forward to help us with our enquiries."

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare

(Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone who recognises Stacey is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
