Firefighters removed the roof of a car to free a woman trapped inside.

The woman was driving a Vauxhall Astra on Monday when the car collided with a Ford Transit van at around 9.30am.

Scottish Fire and Rescue teams arrived at the crash scene in Horsley Brae, Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, and used cutting equipment to help free the woman.

Incident commander Gilbert Rowan said: "We arrived to a find a woman still in the car and she was receiving treatment from paramedics at the scene.

"Based on their assessment of her injuries it was clear that the best way to get her safely from the vehicle was to remove its roof, so the two fire and rescue service crews did this using hydraulic cutting equipment."

The woman was taken to Wishaw General Hospital.
