POLICE sniffer dogs are being used to combat the scourge of deadly drugs in Glasgow nightclubs.

Officers searched revellers at The Arches - where a schoolgirl collapsed and later died - in a bid to seize potentially lethal pills.

Fourteen clubbers were reported to the procurator fiscal following the operation at the Glasgow city centre club at the weekend.

It comes just weeks after the death of Regane MacColl, 17.

Ms MacColl died in hospital in the early hours of February 2, after becoming ill at the club.

Police believe her death could be linked to red 'Mortal Kombat' ecstasy tablets and issued a warning.

Fourteen men, aged between 21 and 26, were reported in conn-ection with alleged drug offences on Saturday.

It is understood a quantity of ecstasy, cannabis and cocaine was discovered during the search.

Local officers confirmed a "drugs dog" assisted them at the city centre nightspot in a bid to root out dealers.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Fourteen men, aged between 21 and 26, are the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal for alleged drugs offences following a search of patrons at a city centre nightclub on Saturday March 1."

Last month, bosses at The Arches decided to stop anyone under the age of 21 from attending club nights following Ms MacColl's death.

As revealed by the Evening Times, the city centre nightclub's licence is under threat following the tragedy.

Licensing chiefs are now considering a request to review its licence.

Following the tragedy, club nights at The Arches were cancelled for two weeks.
