A ROAD worker has died after being struck by a reversing tipper truck near Glasgow Airport.

Emergency services raced to the M8 last night at 11.40pm but paramedics were unable to save the man.
The 33-year-old, who was a contract worker  for road maintenance firm TranServ, was knocked down by a Scania tipper lorry and died at the scene.
He has not yet been named.
The accident happened on the M8 at junction 28 and left the motorway closed for several hours overnight.
The section of road re-opened at 5.25am this morning.
Police said the Health
and Safety Executive has been informed and a report will
be sent to the procurator fiscal.
A spokeswoman for Scot-land TranServ said: “Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with those affected by this incident.”
Although the road reopened, diversions were still in place during rush-hour this morning.
The spokeswoman added: “Restrictions will remain on the M8 eastbound, A737 and eastbound slip road from Glasgow Airport throughout  the day.”
A signed diversion route
for the motorway is in place for traffic from the airport along Sanderling Road, Inchinnan Road, Love Street, Niddry Street and Renfrew Road.
Traffic on the M8 eastbound and A737 eastbound is restricted to one lane.
Although the works were near the Glasgow Airport, the roadworks were not connected to the transport hub.
Traffic Scotland said the closures caused severe delays during the rush-hour this morning this morning during rush hour.
Congestion was expected to ease later but drivers were warned to leave plenty of time for journeys.
