DRIVERS were hit by early morning delays after flooding closed a road in the north of Glasgow.
Council bosses were forced to shut Balmore Road after flash flooding saw a large stretch of carriageway submerged in water.
Workers were called to the scene around 5am today to begin draining rainwater away from the Lambhill Road.
Balmore Road was closed to all traffic between Blackhill Road and Skirsa Street.
A council spokesman said it could be several hours before the road is reopened.
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: "Council crews have been at Balmore Road since the early hours of the morning, tackling localised flooding, and the road is currently closed between Blackhill Road and Skirsa Street.
"We are working to drain water from the road and clear gullies and the street will reopen once that has been done."
Glasgow is to endure more heavy rain over the weekend as forecasters predict wet weather for the city.
Temperatures are set to be average for the time of year with highs of 11C on Saturday and 10C on Sunday.
Saturday and Sunday will see heavy rain and Sunday will be very cloudy.
Andy Ratcliffe, a forecaster for Meteogroup, the weather arm of the Press Association, said: "Glasgow is going to see some heavy rain and showers over the weekend but things will start to improve from next week.
"It's not looking too bad, temperature-wise, but it is going to be very wet and doesn't show any signs of letting up for the weekend."
