A ROOFTOP housing development in the city centre has sold out in just months.

Buyers from around the world have snapped up all 49 apartments in Buchanan Gardens which is part of Glasgow's newest shopping mall.

Estate agent Savills said it was bowled over by the interest and speed at which the eco properties were bought. Owners of the one, two and three bedroom homes have access to a sky garden, residents' gym and executive lounge.

Many come with a private balcony or terrace looking on to busy Buchanan Street below. The garden includes plants chosen specifically to attract birds, butterflies and insects with bird boxes providing new wildlife homes.

An orchard garden at the heart of the rooftop space includes apple trees, wild strawberries, crab apple hedges, a central mulberry tree and is a meeting area for residents.

One-bed apartments cost from £149,995, the two-bedroom from £233,995 while three-bedroom duplex properties rose from £315,995.

Louise Franklin, sales manager for developer Land Securities, said: "We are delighted Buchanan Gardens has sold out.

"All of our 49 homes have been snapped by up an assortment of buyers from downsizers, first-time buyers and those looking to invest in a city centre apartment.

"The development will become home to a diverse mix of people who have come from around the world to buy a home at Buchanan Gardens and enjoy the hub of city-centre living in Glasgow.

"We have had a number of ex-pats who have bought an apartment to keep them in the heart of such a vibrant city.

"There is a great mix of residents moving into the apartments because of the fantastic amenities and we are sure a close-knit community will be formed here."

Buchanan Gardens is part of Land Securities' £70million Buchanan Quarter development at the top of Buchanan Street.

As well as the apartments, it includes nine shops including US fashion giant Forever 21's first store in Scotland, Paperchase, Watches of Switzerland, Fat Face and Skechers.
