STARS of from the world of sport, politics and the media are to take part in a football tournament in aid of the Lord Provost's Clutha Appeal Fund.

The event, at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, will raise cash to help those affected by the tragedy in November, when a police helicopter crashed into the Clutha pub in Glasgow.

Teams will compete in two pools for the Clutha Shield with kick off at 11.30am on Sunday.

In pool one, city councillors, led by deputy council leader Archie Graham will take on the Parliamentarians, a team made up of Scottish Ambulance Service personnel and famous faces from Scottish football. They will be captained by Eastwood MSP Ken Macintosh.

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald, Queen's Park manager Gus MacPherson and Annan Athletic manager Jim Chapman will all feature, with more names to be revealed on the day.

In pool two, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will go head-to-head while council staff will take on journalists and Scottish football pundits. Teams will be supplemented with players from Glasgow Girls FC.

The winners of each pool will face each other in the final match to decide who lifts the Clutha Shield. The tournament will be open to the public, with volunteers from Glasgow Life collecting donations for the Clutha Fund.

Mr Graham said: "I would encourage everyone to come to Toryglen on Sunday morning and support the teams, but more importantly, to support the Clutha Appeal and the individuals and families affected."
