THERE were songs from the shows and piano sonatas as the Glasgow Music Festival draws to an end.

After two-weeks in the city, the annual event, now in its 103rd year, comes to a close tonight.

It has seen more than 7000 young musicians, dancers and speakers take part in everything from country dancing to television news reading.

Thursday saw the Forbes Morton Memorial Certificate and the Gary Wallis Memorial Certificates presented.

Talented youngsters performed art song, vocal solos and songs from the shows.

There were also modern piano solos and sonatas played by young musicians.

More than one million performers take part in affiliated festivals every year.

The event takes place in a host of venues, including Renfield St Stephen's Church, Wellington Church and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
