The family of a man who died after he was in collision with three cars on a motorway in North Lanarkshire have paid tribute to a "much loved son and brother".

Paul McDermott, 28, was in collision with an Audi A3, a Vauxhall Vectra and a Volkswagen Scirocco at around 5.05am yesterday.

He died at the scene on the M73 near Gartcosh in North Lanarkshire.

In a statement released through police his family said: "Paul was a much loved son and brother and will be sorely missed by all the family.

"We would ask that we are left to grieve privately at this very difficult time."

Police Scotland said that investigations into the incident are continuing and appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

They said that the drivers of the vehicles were not injured, but were left badly shaken as a result of the incident.

A police spokesman said: "Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash are at an early stage and officers are working to establish the exact details of the incident.

"Any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist police enquiries should contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency number 101."
