A DAD who stabbed his son through the heart following a row over bacon rolls was jailed for eight years.

John Lennox, 49, was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow of assaulting his 16-year-old son Brendan at the family home in Craigpark Drive, Dennistoun, Glasgow, on September 15, last year.

As Brendan's mother 37-year-old Davina Miller and neighbours rushed to help him as he bled profusely, his dad was calmly attempting to repair the television set which was damaged in the incident.

At the time of the brutal attack Brendan was aged just 15.

In evidence, Brendan Lennox said: "I got stabbed twice."

When asked by advocate depute Stephen McCloy, prosecuting, : "Who did it?, he replied: "My dad. We fought and then I got stabbed."

Asked what sparked the incident, Brendan Lennox said: "It was probably over the bacon."

The court heard that Ms Miller decided to make bacon rolls for her son, Lennox and their guests.

Her son became annoyed when he was not given the first bacon roll and began shouting and swearing, before storming out the house.

He slammed a door as he left which hit his mother. When Brendan Lennox walked back in his a fight developed with his father in which the television was overturned.

At one point Lennox produced a knife and stabbed his son twice. One of the blows went through his heart.

Only the skill of medical staff at Glasgow's Royal Infirmary saving Brendan Lennox.

The jury heard that after stabbing his son callous Lennox said: "How did that feel."

When his mother saw the blood she screamed at Lennox: "You've stabbed our boy in the heart. We nearly lost him."

Miss Miller and her son moved out of the family home after the incident.

Judge John Beckett QC jailed Lennox, who has previous convictions, was jailed for eight years.

Lennox denied stabbing his son and claimed that he may have either stabbed himself or been stabbed by one of the other people in the house that night.
