COMMUNITY groups across Glasgow have been given more than £350,000 to celebrate the Commonwealth Games.
One-hundred and ninety-two organisations from across the country got a share of £1 million from the Big Lottery Fund to put towards Games- inspired activities
Fifty-one groups in Glasgow received a total of £351,023 to help them stage a range of sports, arts and heritage events.
Shona Robison, Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, yesterday visited The Saturday Cafe in Cathcart, which received a grant of £9912.
They will use the cash to stage Commonwealth Cafe - creative sessions in art, dance, drama and sports for 70 children and young people who have complex physical and learning disabilities.
Caroline Paterson, the cafe's project manager, said: "We are thrilled and excited to be awarded this Celebrate grant.
"This will allow our children and young people to engage in arts, dance and sports, as well as taking part in a range of community celebration events with their parents and carers."
Veterans charity Erskine also received a Celebrate award, of £9756, which they plan to use to stage the 'Erskine Games'.
It is hoped that the event will help ex-service men and women from the charity's five care homes to feel more connected to the Games.
