SPORTING heroes from around the world helped to raise funds for the fight against testicular cancer.

With all money going towards the John Hartson Foundation, a host of celebrities teed off alongside the former Celtic striker for the charity golf day at Loch Lomond.

Harston set up the Foundation following his 2009 battle with testicular cancer, which spread to his lungs and brain and left him fighting for his life.

He commented: "I'm delighted by the support we've had for the first John Hartson Foundation Golf Day we've held in Scotland and hope this will be the first of many."

Celtic manager Neil Lennon, his assistant Johan Mjallby, former Celts Ian Wright, Frank McAvennie, Murdo MacLeod and Alan Stubbs took to the Carrick Course to help the cause.

Rangers legends also took the chance to help the Foundation, including boss Ally McCoist, ex-Ibrox stars Derek Johnstone and Bert Konterman,

Also among those who took on the famous course was former Westlife singer Brian McFadden and Match of the Day presenter Robbie Savage.

Former England strikers Alan Shearer and Mark Hateley also took part as did ex-Rangers and Scotland keeper Andy Goram, ex-Celts Tom Boyd and Alan Thompson and former First Minister Jack McConnell

Savage has been friends with Hartson for years, since they played together for the Wales national side, and he is proud of the work his former team-mate is doing.

He said: "John and I go way back, and like many others in the world of sport and beyond I was devastated when I found out about his illness.

"It's fantastic to see all the work he does raising money to help others and spreading the word about testicular cancer."
