ACTRESS and singer, Clare Grogan, was doing her bit for Sport Relief when she visited a team of carers.

The Glasgow-born performer was at the Sport Relief funded project, Carers Link East Dunbartonshire in Milngavie.

The project has has been providing support, information, advocacy and training to carers in East Dunbartonshire since 2004.

It was created through the efforts of local carers and care organisations to be a 'one-stop shop.'

It is the only local organisation dedicated to adult carers and providing a full range of services.

The carers provide care to their family members across a wide range of conditions including physical or learning disabilities, addictions, dementia and frailty of old-age.

In East Dunbartonshire, one person in every eight is a carer. Local demographics however, mean 60% of those supported are over the age of 50.

During the year 2012-13, they supported 1047 individual carers.

This support was provided through a range of services: including peer support through their popular Carers Call telephone support service, peer support from volunteers and carers and the delivery of training courses .

They also provide one -to- one support and advocacy to carers.

As one of the UK's biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives.

This weekend tens of thousands of people in taking part in a whole raft of sport-related money making schemes, culminating in the the Glasgow Sport Relief mile on Sunday.

Since 2002, it has raised more than £195million.

The money is spent by Comic Relief to help people living tough lives, in the UK and across the world.
