THE regeneration of the world famous Barras Market area is being put in the shop window ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

Videos documenting a range of community projects are to be projected on to the windows of the Fabric Bazaar on London Road with repeats on a grander scale planned when Glasgow's host the international sports extravaganza.

The first three-hour screening takes place tonight from 6pm and will be repeated at the same time tomorrow and Sunday. The videos will focus on a number of community based activities which have got underway since the launch of the Action Barras Calton multi-million pound project.

It's designed to spearhead improvements in and around the iconic market and throughout the Calton with organisers determined the local community plays an active role. The films will highlight a variety of community-based projects from modelling sessions to children's charity PEEK using brightly colour cable ties to decorate lamp posts, railings and other areas of the neighbourhood.

The video programme has been put together by Glasgow-based creative studio Pidgin Perfect. Co-founder Marc Cairns says he hopes to deliver the same event "on a much grander scale during the Commonwealth Games."

Yvonne Kucuk, local councillor and chairwoman of Action Barras Calton, added: "Having spoken to those organisations and community residents involved there is a real excitement about the project and we are all looking forward to the coming months with even more exciting opportunities for residents to get involved in the wider plans for the area"
