GLASGOW got active today as the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Games came to the city.

People of all ages walked, ran, swam and cycled a mile - and more - to help boost the charity's total to more than £53 million.

The day kicked off at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Tollcross Park where Scots actress Laura Main helped to start the 50-mile cycle.

The Call the Midwife star said that she was "so glad to have completed the 50 mile cycle".

"It's been a great day," she said.

"I found it so motivating seeing all these people come together for such a great cause - and the sun was shining."

Fundraisers took the plunge at Tollcross International Leisure Centre for the Swimathon, where they paddled, splashed and front-crawled their way across the 50 metre long pool.

Tennis mum Judy Murray also visited the East End park to join in with many runners who braved chilly temperatures to complete the Glasgow Mile.

TV presenter Gail Porter, who ran a mile for the charity, said: "Sport Relief gets more exciting every year and seeing the lengths some fundraisers have gone to is just fantastic. Everyone involved should be so proud of the money raised so far, which I know will genuinely change lives."

The crowds at the games were entertained throughout the day by acts such as Drums and Roses, the Absurdist Pipe Band and Guarana Street Drummers.

Money raised through Sport Relief will be spent helping some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in Scotland, across the UK and around the world.
