DEVASTATED relatives of tragic teenager Hazel North have paid tribute to her.

Forensic officers found the 19-year-old's body buried in Kilmarnock's Dean Park on Monday.

Hazel, from Dunfermline in Fife, last spoke to her family on March 4 when she told her sister she was travelling to Kilmarnock to meet a friend.

In a statement, the teenager's family said: "We the family are devastated by the tragic loss of our beautiful wee Hazel, who was so suddenly taken away from us.

"No words can ever express our feelings at this sad time.

"And although we will never see her mature into a beautiful woman, we will always remember her fun loving smile and energetic personality."

Hazel went to Stranraer Academy but moved to Dunfermline with her father several years ago.

Friends of the tragic teenager have set up a Facebook page in her memory.

The page, RIP Hazel North, has been inundated with messages of support for her relatives.

The family added: "We take comfort from all the sincere messages of sympathy from all who have spared a thought for our wee Hazel.

"We would also like to thank everyone who has shown their concern at this inconsolable time for us.

"The family thanks the police for all their man hours, effort and professionalism.

"We would also like to thank the family liaison officers."

Hazel was not reported missing until last Friday and police issued an appeal for information.

It is not known how long she had been buried in the park before her remains were discovered.

John Davis, 25, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in connection with the death of the teenager. Davis made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

He will appear in court again on April 3.
