A WOMAN has died following a rush hour crash between a car and lorry.

The smash happened at 8.20am today on the outskirts of Glasgow and involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a low loader.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were sent to the crash scene but the 60-year-old female driver of the Corsa died at the scene.

The 26-year-old man who was driving the lorry was not injured but badly shaken, police said.

No one else was injured.

Police say the car and lorry collided on Ardoch Road at Boclair Road, in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire.

Witnesses to the crash raised the alarm and emergency services rushed to the scene.

The road was closed while officers investigated the scene and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We received a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision on Ardoch Road at Boclair Road involving a car and a lorry. Boclair Road has been closed between Milngavie Road and the Auchenhowie Roundabout."

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said paramedics attended but no one was taken to hospital.
