AN early morning fire at a Glasgow pub is ¬being treated as wilful by police.

Crews were called to the Kelvin Dock at around 4.30am today.

Two appliances were sent to tackle the blaze at the corner of Maryhill Road and Fingal Street but the fire did not cause much damage to the building.

However police are treating the incident as suspicious. Officers were standing at the pub entrance this morning.

Maryhill Road eastbound was closed between Skaethorn Road and Kelvindale Road for some time after the fire. The road re-opened to traffic around 7.20am.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We were called at around 4.20am to a fire at the Kelvin Dock pub.

"Inquiries are ongoing but the fire is being treated as wilful"

There has been licensed premises at the site since 1848.

The pub is named after a nearby dry dock that was constructed by the canal company in 1790 and was last used for boat repair in 1962.

The area around Maryhill Locks has been used in scenes from hit Glasgow sitcom Still Game.
