WORKERS at a busy factory were joined by a new recruit raising money for charity.

Renfrewshire Provost Anne Hall lent a hand at Bridge of Weir Leather Company to raise money for causes close to her heart.

The company also donated £500 to Ms Hall's charity project.

The money raised will be shared equally among Ren-frewshire Carers' Centre, Recovery Across Mental Health and the Accord and St Vincent's hospices.

Ms Hall launched the charity-giving scheme by raising £5000 by abseiling from the roof of the council's HQ in Paisley.

Since then, she has raised cash by working at the Piazza shopping centre, Paisley in December and the Phoenix car dealership.

At the Bridge of Weir plant, Ms Hall learned how to finish and cut leather.

She said: "I really felt part of the team at Bridge of Weir Leather plant. I worked with some great people who took time to lead and train me as I worked beside them.

"People will be able to support the four charities by sponsoring them directly."

Karen Marshall, managing director at Bridge of Weir Leather Company, said: "The staff were really pleased to show Provost Hall their skills and expertise."
