THEY say every penny counts...

and a link-up between Yorkhill Children's Charity and a toy shop is proving just that.

The Entertainer, which has a branch in Buchanan Galleries, is raising money via micro-donation charity Pennies in support of six children's hospital charities.

Yorkhill Children's Charity is the first in Scotland and the newest charity to be supported.

Pennies offers customers the chance to round up their purchases to the nearest pound when they pay by card.

Almost £2500 has been raised for Yorkhill Children's Charity via Pennies since October last year, with the New Children's Hospital, due for completion next year, benefiting.

The charity's head of fundraising Kirsten Sinclair said: "This is an incredible sum for such a short period considering most donations have been 10 pence or less - proving every penny really does count.

"We are delighted that the Entertainer store has chosen Yorkhill Children's Charity as their Scottish charity partner in this UK-wide initiative and look forward to a long and successful relationship."

The Entertainer's store manager Rob Parr said: "Pennies fits in with our ethos of helping those in our community, so witnessing these small donations accumulate into a sizable amount so quickly is amazing and reflects the generosity of shoppers in Glasgow."
