DOZENS of youngsters soaked up the sun at an Ayrshire beach.

Siblings Matthew, Sophia and Christopher Taylor, from Glasgow, were one of many children playing in the sand on Ayr beach during the last few days of the Easter holidays.

Despite temperatures reaching an average of just 12C (54F), families were determined to make the most of the sunshine and flocked to the seaside spot for the afternoon.

The good weather is set to continue over the bank holiday with the sun due to shine and temperatures rising on Monday.

Locals can expect packed parks, barbecues and busy beaches as the mercury creeps as high as 17 C (63F).

A Met Office spokesman said: "It's going to be quite nice in the Glasgow area, especially on Saturday.

"It's going to be another fine day with sunny spells and a bit of high cloud, but not enough to stop it being nice and warm and sunny.

"Sunday will still be good, with a bit of cloud in Glasgow and Lanarkshire first thing in the morning.

"It will still be bright with some sunshine, and on the west coast we're still looking at around 17C temperature-wise, so it's going to be a really good weekend across Glasgow and the West."
